Chimo Ryu Crest CHIMO-RYU CLUB "CREST" Chimo is a Canadian Indian and Inuit word meaning welcome.
Ryu is Japanese meaning the way, the style, the school. Combined Chimo-Ryu is symbolic of our club's endeavors to welcome new and better techniques of training and fighting rather than just a basic generic style.
The Canadian Polar Bear has been chosen as our emblem for its legendary speed, endurance, strength, and cunning.
The rising sun is reflective of Jiu-Jitsu's Japanese origin.
To complete our crest we therefore combine the Polar Bear against the rising sun, appropriately encircled by a laurel victory wreath.
Chimo-ryu Jiu-Jitsu club began in the fall of 1978 by Sensei Paul Stegweit in the old YMCA building Sensei Stegweit was chief Sensei for 21 years
